Reliability

Power system reliability includes two components, adequacy and security. Adequacy of the generation system ensures there are sufficient generators on-line to meet the load demand plus reserve obligations. Adequacy of the transmission system means the High Voltage transmission wires are large enough to carry the expected electrical flow. Security means the power system can withstand any single contingency, which is the loss of one or more transmission elements or a loss of any single generator source.

Power system reliability is provided through both diligent planning and operational excellence. Maintenance and upgrades of both generation and transmission facilities ensures for the capability to provide a reliable transmission system. Operational excellence and the ability to react to unplanned and unavoidable occurrences is achieved through ongoing training and compliance with rigorous industry standards.
