All transmission elements are categorized according to their impact on power system reliability and to minimize as much as practical any disruption to the operations of Market Participants whose facilities are connected to the Transmission System (as per New Brunswick Electricity Market Rules – Chapter 5). 

Category 1 - Transmission elements or combination of elements, that, when out of service impose limits on interconnection interfaces. Proposed outage dates must be posted on the NBSO web site.

Category 2 - Requires specific generators on or off-line, restricts generator output or restricts generator’s ability to provide ancillary services such as reserve, automatic generation control (AGC), voltage control etc.

Category 3 - Elements that can be removed from service whenever transmission conditions permit.
