System Planning
The Electricity Act states that the New Brunswick System
Operator (NBSO) is “to undertake and coordinate power system planning and development responsibilities
to maintain and ensure the adequacy and reliability of the integrated electricity
system for present and future needs and for the efficient operation of a competitive
market.” This responsibility includes conducting System Impact Studies related to
new generation, transmission, and load projects. It also includes the annual publication
of a 10-Year Outlook report that includes updates to the load forecast, scheduled
retirements of generation resources, planned generation and transmission projects,
and the assessment of resource adequacy.
